Polite Requests

Hi Penfriend!

How’s it going?  I’m really looking forward to my trip to England.  Here are some more details about my plan.

I want to stay for six months.  I really want to do some volunteer work for about two months.  After that, I’d like to work somewhere for three months and earn a little money.  During the last month of my stay, I want to travel around the UK.

I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sending a list of charities who are looking for volunteers.  I’m interested in working with children.  I know it’s a lot to ask but could you also check the local paper to see which companies need part-time staff.  I also might need your help writing a CV in English, if you wouldn’t mind.  If I could trouble you for one more favor, please send me some travel brochures about the city of Manchester.

Do you still like single-malt scotch?  I’ve got a really nice bottle with your name on it.

My grandmother is making some really special kimchi for you!

When I come to your town I’ll take you to the best restaurant.

I’ll teach your children Korean!

Thanks so much,

Your penfriend.

Today, many people are addicted to social media. This phenomena is shown in many places such as public transportation. Therefore some companies block their employees from using social media networks and websites. I think it is good for companies with regards to peer familiarity, time efficiency, and security.

When it comes to peer familiarity, using Social Networking Sites (SNSs) is obstacle of getting close each other, because they are only concentrate on their virtual life. For example, Most of people including students under mendatory education system spend their much time, at least 2 hour a day, on Facebook and twitter. If they choose to face-to-face friendship instead of SNSs, they can build closer and real relationship, and it can bring a positive synergy effect to companies.

Companies are always aimed at making a prorit, and time is very important factor of earnings. From my hands-on experience time efficiency is always top consideration for fulfilling goal like getting high score at an exam. It is obvious that the more employees spend their time on SNS, the more companies' profit are decreased. Therefore, prohibiting employees from using SNS is smart of compnies to increase their profit in respect of time efficiency.

Lastly, in information age, security is very crucial to compete with other companies. Because of widespread characteristics of Social Network Service, confidential facts and documents of companies are easy to be exposed to people or opposition forces. In terms of tightening security to save companies, SNS should be blocked in work places.

In my conclusion, companies should blocks employees from using any social networks media and websites, because it hinders companies' growth by disrupting close relationship between employees, making workers wasting their time on SNS, and leaking critical information of companies.

Nowadays most of young people use social media networks anywhere. So some companies block their employees from using social media networks. But I think companies don’t have any right to block their employees except something directly related to their works. There are several reasons to support my opinions.

I don’t agree with companies’ policy to block their employees from using Social Networking Sites(SNSs) because whatever companies do they can do with other ways, it impedes maximizing employees’ creativity, and it doesn’t guarantee that employees are going to use time wisely without SNSs.

It isn’t necessary to blocking employee’s network on working time because it can not perfectly control their networks, hurt employee’s creativity and make another way to leaking time.

I don’t think company should block their employees from using social media networks because it’s useless, can maximize employee’s creativity and it can’t ensure that employee use time wisely.

It’s not good way because there are many way to use Social Networking Sites, even though their company block the sites and in this atmosphere employees can’t work creative also employees have many things to waste time except Social Networking Sites.

First of all, even if the companies want to block social media networks, there are many ways to use social media networks under that situation such as using smart phone, and unlocking programs. For example, China block their nation members from using social media networks nationally, but some Chinese people made a program to use facebook or twitter in the china when they want to use that. So that kinds of blocking systems are useless.

Second, I think employee’s creativity can be maximum under the trustful environment. They can imagine many things about work from various factor. Everyone know that trustful environment is more better than the stressful environment for employees.

Third, it can’t ensure that employees use time wisely when they blocked from using social media networks. If they want to do other things and think other things during working hours, they probably do that except social media.

First, second, third … unnecessary

Therefore, managers should trust employees to use time wisely and make them free. That kinds of blocking systems are not that effective for employee’s productivity.

3)

My opinion : Disagree (Please don’t block that sites)

Reason :

1. This is not solution of material question.(just fudge!)

2. If someone lose his work abilities because of SNS, than his boss(NOT CEO. Like a boss of his department) can make him to stop.

3. If all SNS sites are blocked everytime, than when employee’s freetime, they cannot use use SNS.

4. Maybe employees have some complaint.

5. There can be opposite effects.

Nowadays SNS is floating in our life as a very big problem. Everyone has Smartphone, so we can use SNS, anywhere, anytime. But there’s too many people who just watching SNS, like Facebook, Twitter during work, in their company, not do their work. So nowadays some companies block some SNS sites. But I don’t agree with this way. There is three reasons.

First, this is not a solution of material question. It’s just fudge. Companies have to change employees mind. The reason of their using SNS, is just for fun. And just. Just! It is become a habit. So companies have to do change their mind. How about to make something funny way for work to forget about SNS during his work?

Second, there can be opposite effect. Like employees concentration dispersing, negligence of employees, have some complaint, lose their responsibility on their job etc. anyway just blocking is very dangerous thing.

Third, If companies block SNS sites every time, employees can’t use even in their free time.

Of course they can use when they go back to home but isn’t it too strict? For sure, SNS is kind of big part of our life.

One thing we have to know is blocking the website is not material solution. Only way to work in fun and responsibility is important. I think companies are do not decide the way, to talk with their employees is most important. Share problem with all companies. Than they will be a good companies.

About the class

Hello everyone,

I’m Jason.  Welcome to GEC Writing.  I have designed this class for intermediate level students who want to improve their writing skills and to learn more about different types of writing, including essays and short stories.  Usually, GEC classes are flexible.  A lot of the students who take GEC classes want to improve their writing skills because they are preparing for a test or getting ready to study abroad.  I encourage students to give their input to help me decide what topics to focus on, so please let me know if there is something specific you would like to practice in this class.  Remember, there are no exams or grades in this class.  Your goal should be to relax and learn and practice as much as possible.

During the week I’m busy teaching classes, preparing lessons, and checking homework.  Our class meets on Thursday afternoons, so I ask that you submit your weekly writing assignments no later than 8 o’clock on Sunday evenings.  That way, I will have a chance to check your homework before the next class.

Writing assignments can be submitted by posting them as comments on the blog.  The blog address is kutgecwritingjason.blogspot.kr.  Students who don’t already have a gmail address or Google ID will have to create one.

I recommend that students write their assignments using a word processing program, such as Microsoft Word.  When you’re ready to post your assignment to the blog you can copy and paste from the Word file.  Doing it this way will avoid many problems.

Remember that attendance is important when taking GEC classes.  Please try to attend all of our lessons.

Introduction

Greetings
Greetings everyone!  Please allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Jason.  I’m from the United States.  I grew up in a state called MichiganMichigan is located in the Midwest.  It consists of two peninsulas which are surrounded by the Great Lakes.  There are many miles of beautiful shoreline in Michigan and there are many lakes and rivers.  If you enjoy nature, you should visit Michigan someday!
These days I live in a small village called Shingaeri.  It’s located about 25 minutes from campus by bus.  Even though Shingaeri is small, there are many people living there.  Later on in the semester I will tell you about my favorite restaurant in Shingaeri.
On the weekends I usually take a rest or catch up on work.  On Saturday mornings I like to go hiking and in the evenings I enjoy meeting my friends.
I’m very happy to meet all of you and I hope that together we can have a productive semester!
